Ranking the Worst NBA Players to Ever Win a Championship
Winning an NBA title requires practice, teamwork, but most of all, skill. Only one team gets to raise the Larry O'Brien trophy every year, and to be that team that wins the championship there needs to be an abundance of talent. However, even on the best of teams, there are still players at the end of the bench that are towards the bottom of the association in terms of skill. These are the worst players to ever win a championship.
13. Brian Scalabrine
Brian Scalabrine is known by almost every basketball fan on the planet. While famous for memes and quotes, Scalabrine clearly did not impress teams enough to play big minutes. While he was a part of the Boston Celtics during their 2008 championship season, he did not play during the playoffs.
12. Darko Miličić
NBA champion Darko Milicic is known among the NBA community for being picked before Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Carmelo Anthony. During his first season in the league, Milicic played 173 total minutes (including playoffs), sitting on the bench the majority of the time watching his team win the title.
11. Adam Morrison
Adam Morrison was a huge bust in the NBA, but was still able to win a ring as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. After being dumped by Charlotte after 130 total games across 2.5 years, Morrison spent over a season with the Lakers, winning two titles.
10. Patrick McCaw
Pat McCaw is one of the select few NBA players to win three NBA titles, and he did it in his first three seasons. McCaw did not play much for any team (Warriors and Raptors), though, not averaging even 18 minutes per game in any of those seasons, and played even less during the postseason. However, he will be remembered in history as a part of three title-winning teams.
9. Dickey Simpkins
Dickey Simpkins was by no means a top NBA player, playing in only 327 games in his career. Simpkins spent the majority of his career with the Chicago Bulls, winning three championships, though he played 13 total playoff games.
8. Jacque Vaughn
Jacque Vaughn spent 12 seasons in the league, but never played 23 minutes per game in a season. As a member of the champion-winning San Antonio Spurs, Vaughn played just 11.9 minutes per game, averaging just 3 points a game.
7. Wayne Simien
Wayne Simien played just over 500 minutes in the NBA, yet was able to win a title as a member of the Miami Heat. With Shaquille O'Neal and Dwyane Wade doing the work, Simien was able to secure a ring without having to do much heavy lifting.
6. Mengke Bateer
Mengke Bateer was a big body at the end of the bench during his three seasons in the NBA, and was able to secure a championship ring during his one season with the San Antonio Spurs. However, Bateer did not play in any postseason games, and only appeared in 12 games during the regular season.
5. DJ Mbenga
DJ Mbenga was a big body and a fan favorite, but was never near a top talent. Over the course of his six-year career, Mbenga scored 414 points, with 230 of them coming during his two and a half seasons with the NBA champion Lakers.
4. Nate Bowman
Nate Bowman was the seventh-overall pick in the NBA draft, but certainly did not live up to the hype. In 261 total games, Bowman scored 745 points. Luckily, he was a member of the 1970 championship winning New York Knicks, securing a ring.
3. Gabe Pruitt
Gabe Pruitt played in 62 total NBA games and scored 125 total points. Luckily, he was a member of the 2008 Boston Celtics, who were a force to be reckoned with, receiving some hardware in an otherwise uneventful NBA career.
2. Sun Yue
Sun Yue played 28 total minutes in the NBA, but they came with the right team, as the 2009 Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA title. Yue had more fouls than points, and did not play in the playoffs. However, he was still a member of the title-winning Lakers, giving him a piece of jewelry that some top NBA players never earn.
1. Chris Jent
Chris Jent played three total games with the Houston Rockets in the 1993-1994 season, being signed at the end of the regular season. Jent played just 60 minutes during the playoffs, shooting just 25% from the field. Jent may have won the championship, but was not a very big part of the team.
