VIDEO: XFL Fans at Defenders-Battlehawks Build Largest Beer Snake You'll Ever See
By Will Coleman
The Saint Louis Battlehawks and DC Defenders went head-to-head at Audi Field in Week 5 of the XFL regular season, but the action on the field wasn't what was most captivating Sunday. Through three quarters, the teams each exchanged a pair of field goals, while the Defenders scored one touchdown with a failed one-point conversion. At the start of the fourth quarter, however, history was made in the stands.
While the XFL represents a new, exciting way to play football, it also creates a fun atmosphere for fans to enjoy the sport. Stadium patrons don't seem as invested in the games as NFL fans, and that couldn't have come through more in Audi Field faithful's effort to construct this mammoth beer snake.
It even caught the attention of XFL commissioner Oliver Luck, who approached the rabid section of fans and contributed an empty plastic cup of his own.
Goodell would never.
The XFL's initial attendance and viewership numbers are more than promising. Even if the league's fans that pay money to come watch live are fixated on drinking and building towering beer snakes, there's no denying this version of the XFL as a success.
