VIDEO: XFL Has First Ejection After Tampa Bay Vipers' Ricky Walker Throws Punch at Ian Silberman
By Karl Rasmussen
A moment football fans had been awaiting has finally arrived. The first-ever ejection in an XFL game occurred Sunday afternoon when Tampa Bay Vipers DT Ricky Walker was booted from the game after throwing a punch at the helmet of New York Guardians offensive lineman Ian Silberman.
I thought there were no rules in this league?! What's going on?
The incident, which occurred following a play in the second quarter, happened right in front of the eyes of one of the officials, making the decision to toss Walker his easiest verdict of the day.
Whether or not Walker has a long career in the XFL, the defensive tackle will be renowned as the first player sent for an early shower in the league.
Walker, a Virginia Tech alum, played four seasons with the Hokies from 2014-18. He had a brief stint with the Dallas Cowboys in 2019 before joining the Vipers in the XFL.
