XFL's Los Angeles Wildcats Fired Their Defensive Coordinator After One Game and That's Awesome
By Jerry Trotta
The XFL made its highly-anticipated debut this past weekend, and the sheer adoration it received from an overwhelming majority of fans suggest that it's going to be a huge hit.
From the heretical rules, freedom officials permit players, surprisingly efficient replay review system -- pretty much everything associated with the opening slate of fixtures -- everything was awesome.
Even supposed negative optics are being viewed in a positive light, including the Los Angeles Wildcats savagely axing defensive coordinator Pepper Johnson less than 48 hours after their loss to the Houston Roughnecks on Saturday.
The Roughnecks routed the Wildcats by a final score of 37-17, as Houston quarterback PJ Walker popped off, completing 23 of 39 passes for 272 yards and four touchdowns.
Los Angeles simply had no answer for the former Temple standout, and that has promptly led to Johnson's canning.
In an equally brash move, the Wildcats have also reportedly cut defensive captain Anthony Johnson after the team's Week 1 shellacking. Johnson took to Twitter on Monday to confirm his unemployment and that he's looking to get back into the XFL mix.
If this is the beginning of a trend, then NO coach or player will be safe this season following a shambolic showing on the gridiron.
Inject that concept right into our veins.
