XFL Reveals Quarterbacks Assigned to 8 Franchises for Inaugural Season
By Sam Dunn
The 2019 XFL Draft touches off today, but before the revived league's eight teams start picking, one thing needed to get squared away-- assigning each one a franchise quarterback.
But we're not just talking about a bunch of also-rans here. Among the eight gunslingers are former 5-star recruits, erstwhile Heisman contenders, and NCAA national champions. Most notably, Ohio State's Cardale Jones, Oklahoma's Landry Jones and Georgia's Aaron Murray highlight the group.
The Dallas Renegades' Landry Jones threw for an amazing 16,646 yards and 123 touchdowns at Oklahoma, and went on to be selected by the Steelers in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
Aaron Murray was a four-year starter at Georgia and left school as the all-time SEC leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns. He will now play in his hometown for the Tampa Bay Vipers.
Cardale Jones, who once tweeted while at Ohio State that "We ain't come here to play school," heads to DC to play for the Defenders. He led the Buckeyes to a Big Ten title and the inaugural College Football Playoff National Championship in the 2014 season.
The XFL is coming in hot. And while the draft won't be televised -- why not do it live during Monday Night RAW, Vince McMahon?!? -- there's sure to be some palpable buzz in due time given the cachet of some of its first-tier quarterbacks.
