XFL Team Names and Logos Revealed and They're Kind of Corny
By Ryan Giglio
The day is here, people. The XFL has just released all eight teams' official names and logos ahead of its 2020 launch.
Many were surely expecting some unique, hard-hitting names to complement the XFL's bold reputation. Well, those fans may be disappointed with the results. None of the team names stand out all that much. In fact, many sound tame even on minor league baseball standards.
Names like the "Dragons," "Wildcats" and "Guardians" are pretty basic. In fact, they're boring. And the Dragons' logo looks like clip art better suited for a local Pop Warner team.
Maybe the XFL's marketing team knew they weren't working with anything special all along, because they also released descriptions of the team names and their corresponding visuals. And it reads like pretty serious pulp.
These descriptions seem a little too dramatic to be taken seriously. It feels like a lame attempt to earn fans by giving new teams some kind of heroic origin story. That is a nice idea and maybe it will actually work, but everything about it just seems corny and childish at the moment.
With the XFL season starting in February, the hope should be that the games are more exciting than the visual cues we have to go on so far.
