Yankees' Adam Ottavino Drops Comical and Brutally Honest Self-Assessment Ahead of ALCS Game 6
By Parker White
There's no other way to put it: New York Yankees reliever Adam Ottavino has been terrible in the postseason. However, if the Yankees want to get past the Houston Astros and reach the World Series, they need to lean heavily on their bullpen, meaning Ottavino is going to pitch.
But hey, he can't be worse than he's already been, right? That's the mindset Ottavino has.
“The good news is,” he said, “I can’t be this bad forever.”
Many Yankee fans already have their pitchforks out and don't want Ottavino to pitch another playoff game, but especially when it comes to Game 6 where manager Aaron Boone will likely go with a bullpen approach, you'll see him enter the game at some point.
You just have to hope he doesn't look like the same guy he's been in October thus far, giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits and three walks in just 2.1 innings that spans over seven appearances.
Ottavino's confidence hasn't wavered (so he says) and he's closer to the guy that posted a 1.90 ERA over 73 appearances in the regular season. At least, that's what he's telling everyone.
“No, definitely not,” he said. “I know I’m a good pitcher. Stuff like this doesn’t last.”
Ottavino is right and he could look like the dominant arm in Game 6, beginning a long run of excellence. He and the Yankees have to hope that's the case.
