Aroldis Chapman had previously made his intentions clear to opt out of his contract unless he was given an extension by the team.

Well it seems the 31-year-old got his wish. The Yankees and Chapman have reportedly come to terms on a new contract, per Jeff Passan.

HIs new deal is reportedly a three-year contract worth $48 million, so he's effectively tacking on an extra $1 million to each season and extending the deal by a year. This will keep Chapman in pinstripes through the 2022 season, at which point he will re-enter free agency.

He will earn $15 million in each of the next two seasons, and $18 million in 2022.

Chapman had an excellent season in the Bronx, racking up 37 saves and recording a 2.21 ERA with 85 strikeouts across 57 innings.

Chapman was signed by the Yankees in 2016, but was traded to the Cubs in exchange for Gleyber Torres, before returning to New York the following offseason after winning the World Series with Chicago.

He's now set to spearhead the Yankee bullpen for the next three years, resuming his role as the closer, where he's earned 111 saves across his four seasons with the Bombers.
