Yankees and Red Sox Scouts Arrange Special Summer Exhibition Game in Honor of John Altobelli
By Alex Coffman

After the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Kobe Bryant and eight others, scounts from the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are coming together to arrange a special event. An exhibition game is in the offing as part of the summertime Cape Cod Baseball League, and will be held in honor of former junior college coach John Altobelli, who passed away in the crash along with his wife and daughter.
Yankees scout Matt Hyde and Red Sox scout Ray Fagnant were responsible for setting up the John Altobelli Friendship Classic, which will take place at Fenway Park on July 9. A team of high school standouts will take on the Cape Cod League's Orleans Firebirds.

Altobelli was the coach for Orange Coast College baseball team in southern California -- as well as in the Cape Cod League -- and had become friends with Bryant through their daughters, Alyssa and Gianna, who played on the Mambas together, the Orange County-based basketball team.

I’m sick for them. Literally nauseous. May they be surrounded 24/7 by the supernatural peace only absolve at a time like this. RIP John Altobelli, Alyssa, and Keri pic.twitter.com/CST4xPDoEA
Altobelli, his wife, Keri, and Alyssa were three of the nine who perished in the horrific accident. The tributes will be many, and it will certainly be a special scene this summer at Fenway when baseball fans come together in their honor.
