VIDEO: Yankees' Dellin Betances Suffered Partial Achilles Tear Celebrating a Strikeout
By Scott Rogust
The New York Yankees' injury bug continues to add to it's victims list. Unfortunately, the latest victim is Dellin Betances, who just returned from injury. The Yankees announced that Betances suffered a partial Achilles tear on Sunday after recording a strikeout against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Surgery is not recommended, but Betances will go for a second opinion. In any event, it's absolutely brutal news for both the Yankees and for Betances.
General manager Brian Cashman had a quiet trade deadline, as he was confident in both Betances and Luis Severino returning in time for their postseason run.
Betances was previously diagnosed with a bone spur in his throwing shoulder that kept him on the injured list for a majority of the season. The gigantic relief pitcher struck out two Blue Jays batters in 0.2 innings of work.
New York was banking on Dellin Betances' return, as he presented himself as a dangerous option out of the bullpen. Now, his status for the remainder of the season is in serious doubt.
