Yankees Announce Masahiro Tanaka Will Start 1st Game Against Red Sox in London
Major League Baseball's best rivalry is headed across the pond, and what better teams to represent the sport than the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox?
The Yankees recently announced their ace will start the first match of the two-game set against the Red Sox this weekend, as Aaron Boone revealed that Masahiro Tanaka will get the ball in the first-ever MLB regular season game in Europe.
Tanaka (5-5), has a 3.21 ERA this year through a team-high 98 innings across 16 starts. The righty has been the team's best starter all season, setting the tone for the team's starters in ERA, ERA+, innings pitched and strikeouts.
He'll look to continue his dominance on foreign soil.
Tanaka is expected to face off against Boston's Rick Porcello. Until the trade deadline gets closer, the Red Sox will rely Porcello to go deep into ball games, as their bullpen has struggled with consistency all season. They're hoping that the Yankees don't chase him out of the game too early on June 29. On the season, Porcello has 5 wins and a 4.52 ERA in 16 starts.
Boston and New York will look to put on a show at London Stadium, typically the home of soccer club West Ham, as MLB gives Europe two of the game's best teams, and most grueling rivals, this coming weekend.
