Yankees Announcer Suzyn Waldman Boycotting World Series Due to Astros' Handling of Brandon Taubman
By Michael Luciano
Yankees announcer Suzyn Waldman has dug her foot in the ground and is unwavering in her support of Sports Illustrated reporter Stephanie Apsetin after her horrific treatment from the Houston Astros organization.
Waldman has refused to watch the Astros take on the Washington Nationals in the World Series due the organization initially insisting that Apstein's reporting about former assistant GM Brandon Taubman and his love for Roberto Osuna was nothing more than a fabricated story, before spending the next several days trying to walk back their madness.
Waldman, who has been partnered with John Sterling for decades on WFAN, cited the organization's attitude towards Apstein as the main factor that turned her away from the game.
“What they did was worse than Taubman yelling at her, which is vile enough," Waldman said. "They tried to ruin a young woman’s career. How do you come back from that?”
Waldman has never been one to hold back her thoughts when the mic is on, so this is an incredibly on-brand move. It's also a certainty that she is not alone in refusing to watch the Series.
Yes, there are other accused domestic abusers in the league not named Roberto Osuna, but this has nothing to do with Aroldis Chapman, Addison Russell, or any other offenders. After the Astros were accused of negligent behavior in jeering critics of Osuna, they dug their feet in the ground and questioned the credibility of a reporter's daring confession. As Waldman said, we're really not sure how you come back from that.
