Yankees Should Totally Sign Bartolo Colon for Shortened 2020 Season
A potential 2020 MLB season is likely to have expanded rosters for an already-shortened slate of games. That gives teams the perfect chance to add not only prospects, but veterans to the roster who may have not gotten a chance otherwise.
Everyone loves Bartolo Colon. The ageless wonder last pitched in MLB with the Texas Rangers in 2018 and recently made it clear he wants to make a return in 2020. The New York Yankees are one team in particular who could sign him for a shortened 2020 season, especially since they always seem to need rotation depth. What is there to lose?
Colon has declared he would like to finish his career with the New York Mets. Yet, Colon has never won a World Series and he would have a much better chance to do so with the Yankees. He would still get to play in New York, a city where he is beloved, and would not have any pressure on his shoulders.
The right-hander played with the Yankees for one season in 2011 and went 8-10 with a 4.00 ERA. His best baseball in the latter half of his long career came with the Mets, which is why he may prefer to rejoin that club. However, the Yankees could use some depth at that fifth starting spot and Colon would be a perfect option if some of the younger players were not performing well.
He would get a shot to finally win a World Series and truly retire on top. Such a deal would barely cost the Yankees anything and seems to be a perfect match. The 2020 season is already going to be weird and the Yankees can lean into that by signing Colon.
