Brian Cashman Reveals Aaron Judge Had More Tests Done Wednesday But Doesn't Want to Give Partial Update
By Jackson Thompson
Bad injury news has been the theme of the New York Yankees' spring, and general manager Brian Cashman could not alleviate any of those uneasy feelings on Wednesday despite several rounds of testing for outfielder Aaron Judge.
Judge's right pectoral has been extensively examined, but no diagnosis has been determined. Cashman says he will not provide any update on the status of his star outfielder until he has all of the appropriate information.
On Tuesday, Cashman said Judge has responded well to his treatments thus far, but will most likely not be ready for Opening Day. If that projection holds up, 2020 will mark another incomplete season for Judge as he missed significant time the past two years due to other injuries.
In Judge's one full season in 2017, he finished second in AL MVP voting after hitting .284/.422/.627 with 52 homers and 114 RBI while leading the AL with 128 runs scored, 127 walks and an 8.1 WAR.
Judge's absence will only be compounded by fellow Yankees slugger/outfielder Giancarlo Stanton, who is also expected to miss time at the start of the season with a Grade 1 right calf strain sustained while performing defensive drills on Feb. 25. Both are expected to return at some point in April, but fans will be able to relax once a definitive update on Judge is provided.
