Sometimes organizations are out to protect their players during key moments. That's okay. But the "official" word on New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton seems to be changing as the wind changes direction.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone was both unclear and contradictory when asked about Stanton and his rehab again on Tuesday.

He followed that up with the following comment.

About an hour later, the club did put out an updated statement.

Of course they did. Boone was so calamitous on the spot that the club was literally required to act/clean up his mess.

Still, Boone's extreme vagueness continues to put the situation in question.

So, what does this mean? Well, nobody knows, because the people who are supposed to know either don't or refuse to tell anyone what appears to be going on.

It was on April 1, just the fourth game of the season, when Stanton initially suffered a strained bicep. His shoulder issue came up during his recovery, throwing his timetable to return into whack, and eventually eliminating it altogether.

Stanton is just one Yankee whose return is still en route, with Aaron Hicks, Didi Gregorius and Aaron Judge also out of the lineup for the majority of the season. The good news for the Pinstripes is that Gregorius should return soon, with Hicks coming back this week, even as Judge and Stanton continue to be question marks.

And we really do mean that emphatically. What does Boone know and when did he know it?!
