Yankees Continuing to Play Gleyber Torres Against Orioles After Sunday's Injury Was Beyond Stupid
By Thomas Carannante
The New York Yankees are 74-39. There's really nothing to complain about whatsoever if you're a fan.
But you'd think the ONE thing this organization would be cautious of is injuries considering how decimated the roster has been the entire season. Giancarlo Stanton, Luis Severino, Dellin Betances, Miguel Andujar, Luke Voit, Aaron Judge, Aaron Hicks, CC Sabathia, Edwin Encarnacion -- do we need to keep going?
Well, yes, we do. Because now Gleyber Torres is in danger of hitting the injured list.
Torres was taken to the HOSPITAL during the team's Sunday Night Baseball game against the Boston Red Sox due to a core issue and was then in the lineup the very next day as the designated hitter. Why not just give him the night off? You're playing the Baltimore Orioles in Camden Yards, where the team has been obliterating the baseball.
Nope! Let's play him in the field on Tuesday, too, so we can re-aggravate the injury and potentially allow him to hit the shelf with the rest of the Yankees stars missing time.
Oh, he was uncharacteristic after suffering an injury that forced him to get evaluated at a hospital? No kidding?
The Yankees arguably have the best depth in the MLB, considering they continue to rip off wins without their best players. Mike Tauchman, Cameron Maybin, Breyvic Valera, Mike Ford and others are all stepping up and delivering.
So why are we jeopardizing the health of Torres, one of the team's best players and likely franchise cornerstones, in a series against one of the MLB's worst teams?
