Yankees DFA Kendrys Morales and Promote Stephen Tarpley Following Jonathan Holder Demotion
By Adam Weinrib

The Yankees have now spent the last 12 hours doing yeoman's work in clearing their current roster of issues, per their fan base.
The morning after the team demoted Jonathan Holder following his anti-perfect game (five batters faced, five runs scored), they've activated Kendrys Morales from the IL...and immediately DFA'd him, also completing last night's roster move with the addition of lefty reliever Stephen Tarpley.
Prior to tonight’s game, the @Yankees reinstated 1B/OF Kendrys Morales from the 10-day injured list and designated him for assignment. Additionally, recalled LHP Stephen Tarpley (#71) from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Morales was thrilled to wear the Pinstripes, albeit briefly, and his acquisition was another intelligent swing by Cashman. His patience and power should, theoretically, have fit in rather well on this Yankees team packed with reclamation projects.
Unfortunately, he had quite a long leash with the Yanks and didn't perform nearly up to expectations, hitting just .177 with a single homer in 19 games with New York. Following the acquisition of Edwin Encarnacion to fill what little role he had and improve upon it, Morales' writing was on the wall.

Tarpley or Joe Harvey felt like the natural short-term pitching help following Holder's implosion and readjustment, and the Yanks went with Tarp, who will always be remembered in the year-end Yankees DVD compilation for his heroic save in Cleveland in mid-June.
