Yankees' Domingo German Expected to Get Hit With 'Significant' Suspension
By Scott Rogust
The New York Yankees bolstered their starting rotation by splurging on ex-Houston Astros ace Gerrit Cole. However, it appears the team's mix of starters will be down a man for a lengthy amount of time to start the 2020 season.
According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, right-handed pitcher Domingo German is expected to be handed a 'significant' suspension, likely lasting more than a month for a domestic violence incident this past season.
German's status for the 2020 season has been in doubt for some time now, and Heyman points out a decision will be handed down "soon."
The 27-year-old pitcher was placed on MLB's administrative leave list back in September, and missed the entire postseason for the Yankees. Reports indicate that German got into a public altercation with his girlfriend and he allegedly slapped her. As it turns out, the witness to the altercation was a member of the Commissioner's office.
In 2019, German logged an 18-4 record with a 4.03 ERA and 153 strikeouts across 143 innings.
With German out for supposedly over a month, the Yankees will rely on a rotation which is expected to consist of Cole, Masahiro Tanaka, Luis Severino, James Paxton, and a returning Jordan Montgomery.
