Yankees Flying Out to Meet Gerrit Cole and Stephen Strasburg Proves They're Ready to Make Big Move
By Andy Loughmiller
The New York Yankees have never been afraid to spend money during MLB free agency, but they haven't been as aggressive as they've been in years past.
Fans should start getting excited though, because the team's actions early on in the offseason suggest that could change very quickly.
The Yanks will reportedly meet with right-handed pitchers Gerrit Cole and Stephen Strasburg. What's worth noting here is that New York will travel to the players rather than having Cole and Strasburg come to them.
This indicates that the team is taking a different approach this time around. Last offseason, the Evil Empire forced Manny Machado and Patrick Corbin to meet with them on their own turf in Yankee Stadium. This clearly shows that they weren't doing everything in their power to sign those two last year.
Perhaps they see more value in Cole or Strasburg, but whatever the case, there's clearly a sense of urgency among the team's front office.
Some have speculated Cole would prefer to play somewhere on the West Coast, but the Bronx Bombers have not been dissuaded from going after him.
With a dire need for starting pitching, expect the Yanks to land one of the top two arms on the market to appease a very loud fanbase.
