Yankees Reveal Date for Gerrit Cole's Spring Training Debut
By Karl Rasmussen
While New York Yankees fans are hoping to get through the rest of Spring Training with a clean bill of health (sorry James Paxton), supporters are equally eager to get a glimpse at Gerrit Cole toeing the rubber for the Bronx Bombers.
Well, the first chance to do so will come Monday, Feb. 24, when Cole is expected to make his first Spring Training start for his new club.
Cole will be facing off against one of his former teams in his debut, with the Yankees set to play host to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Fans have already been treated to clips of Cole in action, throwing batting practice to Yankee hitters -- and making them look like Little Leaguers in the process.
Last year, Cole tossed 212.1 stellar innings for the Astros, recording a 2.50 ERA and striking out 326 batters.
The Yankees' Grapefruit League season kicks off Saturday, when left-hander J.A. Happ will take the hill against the Blue Jays. They take on the Rays Sunday before hosting the Pirates.
