Yankees Get Positive Injury Update on Dellin Betances
By Parker White
New York Yankees right-handed reliever Dellin Betances has yet to make a big league appearance this season, as he's been out all year with a right shoulder impingement and a lat strain.
However, after throwing 22 pitches in Tampa this weekend, Betances said he felt better than he did last season.
“It went better than the second time,’’ said Betances. “I felt like the direction [of the pitches] was a little better. The breaking ball is still not where I want it to be.”
If he doesn't have a setback in his recovery, Betances is set to face hitters again on Tuesday, this time at Yankee Stadium.
“The more I pitch, the better I’ll feel,’’ Betances said. “The biggest thing is recovery and I’ve been recovering pretty good. That’s what I’m paying attention to.”
It still remains to be seen when Betances will be ready to return to the Bronx, but this is an encouraging sign that it'll be before the regular season ends and that he'll have time to get prepared for the postseason.
