Yankees Get Positive Injury Update on Didi Gregorius Following Sunday Night Win
By Sean Facey
Yankees fans got quite a scare on Sunday when Didi Gregorius was pulled from action against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the third inning after he was hit by a pitch in the first inning.
But the Bronx Bombers and their supporters can both rest a bit easier. New York's manager Aaron Boone said that X-rays came back negative on Didi's shoulder, certainly a strange place to be nursing stiffness. The hope is that it's just a bone bruise that won't sideline him for long.
Gregorius was a vital part of the Yankees' clobbering of Dodgers star Hyun-Jin Ryu on Friday. He clubbed a grand slam off of the MLB ERA leader en route to a 10-2 rout.
Though he hasn't been as dominant as he was last year, he's still been quite serviceable following his return from Tommy John surgery. Entering play on Sunday, he was exactly league average at the dish with a 100 OPS+.
He also gives the team flexibility at shortstop that most teams would envy. With Gregorius available, Boone can play Gleyber Torres at second base while getting Sir Didi some time at short.
The Yankees will definitely need him for the playoff push. He's an important clubhouse presence, and as long as he's on the field guiding this team with his eight seasons of experience, they'll be right as rain.
