Yankees Reportedly 'Getting a Lot of Interest' in Miguel Andujar Trade at GM Meetings
By Adam Weinrib
The potentially positionless man with the helicopter swing is a hot commodity these days, if you believe the Yankees' side of the equation.
According to Brian Cashman, other teams throughout the league are acutely aware of New York's current Miguel Andujar predicament, and are attempting to pry him away before the position battle opens in earnest.
According to GM Brian Cashman's appearance on ESPN's The Michael Kay Show, "I’ve got clubs asking me, ‘What are you going to do with him? We'd have an interest in him. Mark us down.'"
Andujar had a breakout 2018 season with the bat, hitting .297 with 27 homers and 92 RBI, though his glove left something to be desired. After a freak shoulder injury and resulting surgery felled him for the vast majority of 2019, the team managed to fill his production (with an added defensive bonus) with Gio Urshela at third, leading to a conundrum and potential positional shift in '20.
The Yankees know what a talented bat they have here, though, and won't be foolish and sell low. The question remains: If everyone's interested, will anyone have enough faith in the glove coming around to fairly compensate the Yanks? Or will the NYY simply keep the valuable bat and figure things out later?
