Gleyber Torres Sends Awesome Message to Yankee Fan Nurses Working Overtime
By Michael Luciano
The entire country has put sports on the backburner as they work to treat and halt the coronavirus pandemic that is gripping the nation.
This unexpected crisis has forced healthcare workers, specifically those in the ICU, to push themselves to the brink in order to help patients recover on time. New York Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres took the time to acknowledge the life-saving work of a group of ICU nurses in New York, calling them "savages in the box."
These nurses planned to attend the Yankees' home opener, which was scheduled to take place this week, but the virus has forced the MLB to tentatively postpone the start of the season until further notice.
Torres echoed the sentiments of teammate and catcher Gary Sanchez, who also praised those fighting the virus on the front lines.
When the pandemic subsides and we have it under control, these ICU workers deserve some sort of care package from the Yankees. Maybe some luxury box tickets to their first home game back?
In these unusual and trying times, those working their hardest to prevent this virus from spreading while helping treat and cure this disease deserve the utmost reverence and praise. Through their continued work and the general public doing their best to combat the spread, we could get baseball back sooner than we expected.
