Yankees Have Major Scouting Presence at Marcus Stroman's Start Friday in Detroit
With the MLB Trade Deadline fast approaching and teams looking to shore up some loose ends heading towards the playoffs, the Yankees are doing their due diligence on a division rival's ace.
Blue Jays' Marcus Stroman is scheduled to start Friday night against Detroit, and the Yankees are sending a "significant scouting presence" to watch the game, according to Jon Morosi.
Stroman is one of the biggest names on the market this year and will garner a haul for Toronto. The six-year veteran was a first-time All-Star in 2019, posting a 3.25 ERA in the first half of the year.
The Yankees could use another arm to pair with Masahiro Tanaka down the stretch, and their pool of prospects could easily swing a deal for Stroman. Regardless, New York is one of many teams who will be in close contact with the Jays as the July 31 deadline approaches.
The Phillies, Cubs, Dodgers and Braves are all rumored to have interest in the 28-year-old right-hander. Stroman is the type of arm who will instantly boost any rotation he's in, regardless of team. He's also a great fit at Yankee Stadium, considering his tendency to induce ground balls rather.
Stroman's presence could be the difference between a playoff appearance or a World Series appearance. We'll soon find out which team that will be.
