Yankees Hire Eric Cressey to Oversee Strength and Conditioning Operations
By Jerry Trotta
After a 2019 campaign that was overshadowed by shattering the record for most players injured in a single season, it was widely expected that the New York Yankees would make sweeping changes to their training staff.
That revamp began in December when the Yankees fired strength and conditioning coach Matt Krause, who had been with the club since 2014.
Well, on Friday, the overhaul continued when it was confirmed that the organization appointed esteemed performance coach Eric Cressey to oversee strength and conditioning operations.
Cressey currently runs Cressey Sports Performance, trains with both Max Scherzer and Corey Kluber, two of MLB's most dominant hurlers. According to The Athletic, Cressey will be given the freedom to hire his own assistants.
Additionally, the Yanks are expected to transfer athletic trainer Steve Donohue, who has been with the franchise since 1978, to a new role within the club.
New York will also reportedly promote assistant athletic trainer Michael Schuk, as Donohue's replacement.
Fans in the Bronx had to see this remodeling of their training staff coming, and they'll surely be hoping that the hiring of Cressey and Co. will bode well for the health of their Yankees in 2020.
