Yankees' Jordan Montgomery Experiences Discomfort and Shuts Down Bullpen Session
By Sean Facey
Jordan Montgomery's road to recovery from Tommy John surgery hit a snag on Tuesday.
The New York Yankees southpaw shut down his bullpen session in Tampa after experiencing discomfort.
Montgomery hasn't pitched in an MLB game since May 1 of last year, but prior to that, he was one of the more promising young starters in the entire league.
Through his first 35 career starts, Montgomery posted a 3.84 ERA and a respectable 1.248 WHIP, pitching to the tune of an 11-7 record. The 26-year-old had shown plenty of promise leading up to his unfortunate injury.
He called the session off on Tuesday after throwing 15 pitches. Hopefully the discomfort he experienced isn't a sign of a larger issue.
This is just how the Yankees' luck with injuries has gone this year. Players seem to be making great strides in their recovery only to hit a wall and take a few steps back before getting on track again.
Though his return to the team wasn't expected for a long time, it doesn't make the news any less disconcerting or disappointing.
