As great as New York Yankees legend Mickey Mantle was on the diamond, he was every bit as polarizing off it.

His drinking habit was one thing, but the late Hall of Famer's brashness while speaking to reporters, particularly females when they entered the fold, was an entirely different level of disturbing.

In a revealing memoir, Diane Shah, the first female reporter to land a gig at a major newspaper, told the story of a sit-down interview with Mantle back in 1970. During the segment, the 20-time All-Star slipped Shah a greeting card that contained a highly provocative pickup line.

“Then he reached inside his jacket and pulled out a greeting card. He handed it to me. The front showed a picture of flowers, and I assumed this was a card he intended to give his wife. I opened it. Inside, it said, ‘Wanna f - - k?’ He grinned," read Shah's memoir.

Holy moly.

Per Shah, this flirtatious letter came moments after Mantle acknowledged that he had been married for "too long." These are incredibly offensive acts by the three-time MVP, and they perfectly encapsulate his non-baseball shenanigans.

We'll hazard a guess and say that Mantle's inquiry was unsuccessful, and that this became a regular occurrence once females became a routine face in MLB clubhouses.

With sexual harassment in the work place taking the world by storm in recent years, Shah's recollection is telling in that it suggests the issue dates back at the very least 50 years.
