Yankees Locker Room Seems to Indicate Mike Ford Has Made Playoff Roster
By Adam Weinrib
There's nothing like symbolic passings of the torch, is there, eh?
In a move that would've been deemed too transparent if it were pulled off as subtle symbolism in a high schooler's essay, it seems that one former top prospect might be passing his locker off to a slugger who surpassed him in 2019 (at least in the eyes of most fans).
Insider George King noticed during his tour of the Yankees' locker room ahead of the ALDS that, although no official roster decisions have been made yet, Clint Frazier's locker is now... Mike Ford's.
Unless the team has decided to do some mysterious mid-October housekeeping for next spring, it certainly seems like the slugger out of Princeton has made the roster.
What this means for Luke Voit, we don't know. Voit, last year's spark plug, battled a sports hernia for a good portion of a down second half, ending the regular season displaying plenty of his trademark patience, but mired in 1-for-32 slump.
Ford's been better off the bench, and better as of late. Will this affect Voit, or a pitcher's spot (aka CC Sabathia)?
We should know more on Thursday.
