Yankees Lost All Their Leverage in Marcus Stroman Talks in 1 Week
By Michael Luciano
In just one week, starting pitching went from a weak spot that could be improved upon to a gangrenous lesion that will make it almost impossible for the Yankees to be true contenders unless it if fixed immediately.
While the Yankees have inquired with the Toronto Blue Jays about a trade for starter Marcus Stroman, any potential leverage they had with regards to the type of prospect they could give up has since evaporated. If they want to get Stroman, they will likely have to give up top prospect Deivi Garcia in trade talks.
With a 2.96 ERA this season at age 28, there is no doubt that Stroman was going to command a hefty price even if the Yankees starting pitchers were competent.
With the Yankees in desperate need of pitching, Stroman will either be too pricy or will require sending the gem of the entire farm system to a division rival.
These are the Yankees, however, so one or two big prospects is likely not going to be enough to hold up a deal of this magnitude.
