Yankees Shutting Down Luis Severino After Aaron Boone Reveals He's Dealing With Forearm and Elbow Issues

After setting the major league record by sending 30 players to the injured list last season, the New York Yankees are already on the fast track toward repeating that unwelcome feat once again in 2020.
Just a few days before Grapefruit League play gets underway, Aaron Boone revealed the Yankees are shutting down star pitcher Luis Severino. The 26-year-old was reportedly dealing with discomfort in his forearm while throwing his changeup.

That's not all nagging at Sevy, however.
Boone later revealed that Severino is also dealing with a "loose body" in his throwing elbow, a cause for major concern among fans in the Bronx.

Severino is expected to visit Dr. Chris Ahmad on Friday to undergo further evaluation, but the fact that he's being shut down so close to the start of Spring Training is an obvious red flag.
Yankee fans were eager to see their former All-Star back on the mound for a healthy go of things in 2020 after he missed most of the 2019 campaign due to various injuries.
Not the best of birthdays for Severino, who may be farther away from a 2020 start than anyone ever expected.
