With Aaron Judge expected back Friday night, the Yankees faced a difficult decision as to who would be optioned back to to the minor leagues. Many believed that recently-acquired outfielder Cameron Maybin would be the odd man out, but his performances in the Bronx seemed to have forced the Yankees' hand.

Maybin lives to see another day in New York, as the Yanks announced they optioned LHP Nestor Cortes Jr. to Triple-A, after he picked up the win in their clash with Houston on Thursday.

This was the right move for the Bombers. Maybin is slashing .308/.386/.496, and has provided 5 homers, 14 RBI and 6 stolen bases across 41 games. It would have been extremely hard for the Yankees to send Maybin down with his consistent production.

By keeping Maybin on the roster, it also adds to the team's outfield depth. With Aaron Hicks, Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Brett Gardner, and Maybin all on the big league roster, the Yankees now have one of the deepest outfields in all of baseball.

And with the plethora of injuries New York has dealt with this season, the Yankees can't be sure that someone won't get sidelined again, especially in the outfield.

Maybin will more than likely be designated to a bench role when Judge returns to the mix, but the veteran outfielder proved his worth during his time as a starter.

The red-hot Maybin crushed four homers within the last week. It was a no brainer for the Yankees to keep him at the big league level, and a good move for New York.
