Yankees Manager Aaron Boone Provides Update on Gary Sanchez's Groin Injury
By Daniel Marcillo

The New York Yankees announced All-Star catcher Gary Sanchez would be placed on the 10-day injured list after he suffering a groin injury during their win over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night.
Manager Aaron Boone weighed in on Sanchez's status on Wednesday, and while it seems to be a positive update, don't expect to see the slugging catcher on the field as the Yankees will likely be cautious with his recovery.
Aaron Boone calls it a Grade 1 groin strain for Gary Sánchez. Declined to speculate on how long he might be out. “It will be some time,” but the news is comparatively good.

Sanchez had been struggling at the plate before the injury, which was suffered when he tried to beat out a ground ball in the eighth inning.
The Yankees catcher now has landed on the IL the same amount of times he did in 2018. Both of those IL stints were due to right groin injuries.

Sanchez was only 6-for-59 (.102) in July before the injury and looked in need of a break. This is his fourth leg injury over the last two seasons and it has to be concerning for the front office moving forward.
Austin Romine will assume the everyday catching duties while Sanchez heals. He's hitting .244 in 39 games this season. Kyle Higashioka was recalled from Triple-A to become the new backup catcher.
