Yankees Move Aaron Hicks to 3-Hole for First Start Following Rainout Monday
By Parker White
The New York Yankees activated center fielder Aaron Hicks from the injured list on Monday, and he was scheduled to hit leadoff in his first game back against the Baltimore Orioles.
But then the bad weather came and his season debut was postponed.
New York is hoping to get its game in tonight against Baltimore, and if they do, you'll see Hicks in a different spot in the lineup, as he'll hit third.
DJ LeMahieu will start at second base and lead off tonight against O's starter Andrew Cashner. First baseman Luke Voit will continue to hit in the second spot, and it'll be catcher Gary Sanchez hitting cleanup and protecting Hicks.
The Yankees have to hope Hicks will do a better job this year in the third spot in the order than he did last year. In 33 games (117 at-bats) as the No. 3 hitter in 2018, Hicks slashed .222/.343/.410 with 6 home runs and 19 RBI.
The Bombers continue to fiddle with its lineup as more players begin to return from injury, but for now it looks like Aaron Boone feels comfortable with Hicks batting third. Let's hope it pays off, should Tuesday's game not be rained out.
