Yankees Move Clint Frazier to DH in Tuesday's Lineup Amid Defensive Struggles

After the Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton injuries, former prized prospect Clint Frazier has proven himself as a quality hitter this year, sporting a nice .272 average and a 118 OPS+ with 10 home runs in 41 games. His defense, however, is a different story, as his defensive WAR of -0.9 is among the worst in baseball. Pair that with some costly errors against the Red Sox, and Frazier's defense can generously be called subpar right now.

After the nightmare to close an otherwise-excellent series against Boston, Frazier will DH in a road matchup against the Blue Jays, with Cameron Maybin playing right.

That's the best spot for him right now. With half the Yankees still on the IL, they need his power and bat speed in the lineup while a fast veteran like Maybin patrols the outfield. It's a win-win for all parties.

For that small segment of Yankees Twitter that wants Frazier's head on a pike after that poor game, need I remind you that he's only 24 and has this much raw power?

Aaron Boone deserves credit for this move. Benching him would be unwisely giving up on a blossoming young player, but he still found an upgrade for his defense. Frazier, a third baseman in high school, can and will get better as an outfielder.
