Yankees MVP Candidate DJ LeMahieu Undergoes MRI After Battling Groin Tightness
By Parker White
If the first two games of their series against the Boston Red Sox weren't deflating enough, things got worse on Saturday when it became known that New York Yankees All-Star infielder DJ LeMahieu is dealing with groin tightness that required an early MRI.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said before Saturday's game that LeMahieu left Friday's game because of groin tightness, which is why he's not suiting up for the third game of the series.
It's never a good sign for a player to have an MRI, but he hasn't been placed on the injured list, and the hope is that he'll be back in the lineup in a couple days. Of course, that all depends on what they see from the MRI.
Boone seems confident, but as all Yankee fans know, that's quite meaningless in 2019.
In 95 games this season, LeMahieu has been New York's constant in the batting order and is slashing .332/.382/.517 with 15 home runs and 71 RBI.
LeMahieu joins several key players out of the lineup, including Giancarlo Stanton, Gary Sanchez and Brett Gardner, who are currently on the injured list.
