Yankees Need to Give Red Hot Chance Adams a Shot During Domingo German Absence
By Brian Cass
With New York Yankees starting pitcher Domingo German heading to the 10-day IL with a strained hip flexor, they have a hole to fill in their starting rotation.
Luckily for the Yanks, they already have someone in their farm system who's primed to get the call up the big leagues. Chance Adams has been on a tear in the minors recently, and many believe he'll be used to help mitigate the loss of German, after redeeming himself midway through this minor league campaign with a torrid stretch.
After undergoing elbow surgery prior to the 2018 season, he had a less-than-stellar campaign. Adams finished with a 4.78 ERA over 133 innings, allowing a career high in home runs with 16.
He didn't get off to an ideal start this season either, posting a terrible 10.32 ERA through his first three starts. But since then, he's established himself as one of the best pitchers in the minor leagues.
In seven appearances, including a short stint in the big leagues, Adams has posted a 1.40 ERA with 34 strikeouts. He's starting to turn heads, and the Yankees would be foolish not to give him an opportunity with the team while German is out.
If Adams does to get the call, we'll be anxious to see how he performs. If he comes out and continues to pitch lights out, he could earn himself a more permanent role in the Yankees rotation.
