Did someone put a curse on the New York Yankees?

While the team has played well all season and has a comfortable lead in the division, several of its stars have dealt with injuries, and some with more than one.

The injury bug continued to make its way through the roster on Saturday, as outfielder Aaron Hicks was believed to have suffered an elbow injury while throwing to third base in the Yankees' second game of their doubleheader against the Red Sox.

Hicks is scheduled for an MRI on Sunday and the Yankees will no doubt hold their breath for good news.

While the Yankees did not make any trades at the deadline on Wednesday, they still have depth at the outfield position, namely with Clint Frazier at Triple-A. In 37 games with the RailRiders, Frazier is hitting .257/.306/.466 with 6 homers and 17 RBI.

While those stats are not fantastic for a former top prospect with "legendary bat speed," they're respectable enough for a guy who has shown ability to be a productive hitter at the major league level.

Fraziers numbers are better in 53 games with the Yankees this season. He's hitting .283/.330/.513 with 11 home runs and 34 RBI. Frazier was not pleased with being demoted in June after difficulties in the outfield and a couple rough interactions with the media. Maybe his mediocre numbers in Triple-A reflect that.

Even if that's the case, general manager Brian Cashman needs to call him up of Hicks needs a lengthy IL stint. The Yankees have refused to promote him despite their excessive injury troubles over the past six weeks.

Frazier must be called up to show the Yankees he's mature enough to handle playing in New York. He deserves a second chance. If he can't show maturity but still produces on the field, then at least the Yankees know Frazier's value to the team is as a trade chip in the winter.

With Hicks' latest injury, the final two months of the regular season can be huge for Frazier regarding his tenure with the Yankees. A two-month showcase in a pennant race will be beneficial for both parties. The team needs to stop punishing him and bring the slugger back to the Bronx.
