3 Yankees Who Should Remain Off-Limits in Winter Trade Talks
The New York Yankees always spend big on free agents. Yet the team is bolstered by building from within as well and getting top talent at a low cost. There are a few players who should be out of trade talks this offseason for the Bronx Bombers, as they've built a nice prospect pool.
3. Deivi Garcia
Garcia is listed as a top prospect for the Yankees and there is just no need to move him at this point. The team can spend big on Gerrit Cole to improve the starting rotation while allowing Garcia to develop. The 20-year-old reached Triple-A last year and is someone the Yankees can build around for years.
2. Gleyber Torres
Torres was famously part of the Aroldis Chapman trade and was a coup for the Yankees. He has already reached two All-Star Games in two years and has a 6.8 WAR in that span. He has the ability to be a legendary Yankee and trading him would make zero sense at his current age.
1. Giovanny Urshela
Urshela was sent out of Cleveland and Toronto until he landed in New York. 2019 saw him play in 132 games with a career-high WAR of 3.4, his first positive-WAR season. He is under team control through 2023 and the Yankees would be wise to consider third base another cost-effective position with Urshela.
