Yankees Option Young Hurler Miguel Yajure to Double-A Trenton
By Jerry Trotta
Unfortunately for young right-hander Miguel Yajure, he'll have to wait a little longer to stake his claim as a reliable option for manager Aaron Boone.
The New York Yankees announced on Saturday that they've opted Yajure to Double-A Trenton.
Yajure was never really expected to make the Yanks' Opening Day roster, as he was only called up to the Double-A level for the first time late in the 2019 campaign. Though the club clearly sees a future for the Venezuelan, he simply needs to get more experience under his belt before he gets his shot at the big leagues.
The 21-year-old hurler was superb for Tampa and Trenton last season, and that earned him a call-up to the Yankees' 40-man roster in November. Across 20 starts (138.2 innings), "Yahoo," as Boone loves to call him, posted a 9-6 record alongside a stellar 2.14 ERA, 133 strikeouts and 1.075 WHIP.
While Yajure is headed to New Jersey for Double-A action to start the year, he'll look to keep working his way up and eventually make a return trip to the Bronx.
