As if the New York Yankees could afford any more injuries, right-handed pitcher Domingo German is now the latest Yank to be placed on the Injured List.

The pitcher is being placed on the 10-day IL with a left hip flexor strain. Southpaw Stephen Tarpley has been called up to help mitigate the loss of German in the meantime.

German is having an outstanding season for the Yanks this season, making this news all the more disappointing. He has a 9-2 record with a 3.86 ERA and 77 strikeouts thus far.

The righty heading to the IL will make it 19 injured players total for New York. But, despite the abundance of injuries that have plagued the Yankees this season, they're still tied atop the AL East with the Tampa Bay Rays at 39-24.

For the Yankees' sake, they're hoping this hip strain gets healed up while German sits out. Some fans have speculated that he may have been dealing with an injury due to his subpar play recently, and it seems like their speculation may have been spot on.

But regardless, this injury doesn't appear to be too serious, so German should be back in no time.
