Yankees Place Veteran OF Brett Gardner on 10-Day IL
By Karl Rasmussen

The New York Yankees' injury carousel continues to make its rounds. Its latest victim? Veteran outfielder Brett Gardner.
The 35-year-old was placed on the 10-day IL as he's been dealing with left knee inflammation. The move is retroactive to July 22, so Gardner would be eligible to return in early August.
Prior to tonight’s game, the @Yankees placed OF Brett Gardner on the 10-day injured list with left knee inflammation (retroactive to 7/22) and recalled LHP Stephen Tarpley (#71) from Triple-A @swbrailriders.

In a corresponding move, left-handed hurler Stephen Tarpley has been recalled from Triple-A Scranton.
Gardner is having a serviceable year in the Bronx. He's slashing .243/.325/.460 with 15 home runs, 41 RBI and 8 stolen bases. He joins Gary Sánchez, Luis Severino and Dellin Betances (among others) on the injured list.
In addition to the Yankees issuing Troy Tulowitzki’s statement on his retirement, they also announce that Brett Gardner has been placed on the 10-day IL with left knee inflammation (retroactive to Monday). Reliever Stephen Tarpley was called up from Triple-A.

He's sat out the past few games while dealing with the knee injury, forcing the Yankees to run with a shorter bench during their series with Minnesota, during which an additional bench bat would have been a luxury.
Hopefully Gardy isn't sidelined too long by the knee ailment, but Mike Tauchman has been outstanding while replacing him in the lineup.
The move comes shortly after the team announced veteran shortstop Troy Tulowitzki's decision to retire from baseball.
