Yankees Projected 2020 Lineup is Actually Monstrous
By Scott Rogust
The New York Yankees entered the MLB Winter Meetings with one goal, and that was to sign former rival ace Gerrit Cole. It took $324 million, and some fancy wine, to do so.
Now, with a rotation consisting of Cole, Masahiro Tanaka, James Paxton, and Luis Severino, fans are left wondering what the batting order for the 2020 season might look like. Luckily for baseball fans, YES Network provided a glimpse of the projected lineup, and it's downright terrifying.
Oh, yeah, right, all of those guys! Seriously, how do you pitch around that batting order?
DJ LeMahieu, Aaron Judge, and Gleyber Torres as the top three hitters in the lineup makes the opposing pitcher's job very difficult to start off the game. But when looking at the bottom of the order, Brett Gardner and Gio Urshela can provide quality hits, as evidenced this past season.
What does stick out, however, is the overabundance of right-handed hitters. Gardner is the only lefty in the starting lineup, as of this writing, with the short porch in his sights.
Of course, Aaron Hicks is a switch hitter, and he will return at some point during the 2020 season after undergoing offseason Tommy John surgery. Plus, the Yankees have Mike Ford and Mike Tauchman available off the bench, and both bat lefty.
Either way, the New York Yankees look poised to cause damage next season, as they begin their "Chase for 28" once more.
