Yankees Provide Positive Updates on Luis Severino and Dellin Betances
By Jerry Trotta
They've been few and far between in 2019, but we have a positive update to convey to the injury-fatigued Pinstripe faithful.
As we know, the Yankees have been without two of their most trusted and lauded arms for the entirety of the season thus far: staff ace Luis Severino and flamethrowing reliever Dellin Betances.
However, it would appear that the two right-handers have taken a massive step forward in their rehabilitation. Sevy threw a full-strength bullpen session on Thursday at the Stadium, telling reporters afterwards that he plans to throw a simulated game on Sunday.
Following that, the plan is for the two-time All-Star to head out and partake in a rehab assignment. For real.
Betances' update, as MLB Network's Jon Morosi points out, wasn't nearly as detailed. The four-time All-Star simply threw off a mound on Thursday. However, it's still should be taken as a significant positive for New York. Just recently, D.Dawg wasn't even thinking about tossing off a mound.
The next stop for Dellin, well, is to advance as far as his teammate: feel comfortable enough to throw a simulated game and begin a rehab assignment in the minors.
If all goes well over the next month or so, the Yanks should welcome back the two stars right before the postseason's inception.
