Yankees Pull Gleyber Torres From Tuesday's Game Against Orioles Amid Injury Concerns
By Scott Rogust
Stop us if you've heard this before. A New York Yankees player has left the game with an apparent injury.
After suffering a core injury scare during Sunday night's series finale against the Boston Red Sox, infielder Gleyber Torres was pulled from Tuesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. Rookie Breyvica Valera assumed duties at second base as a result.
Torres left Sunday's game and stayed at a local hospital in the Bronx to undergo hours of testing (but apparently, not an MRI, per intel disseminated during Tuesday's broadcast). Torres' father provided a positive update the following morning, saying all tests came back clean and he would be traveling with the team to Baltimore.
It's unknown if Torres being removed from Tuesday's game was a result of core discomfort.
As to why Torres played the past two games, it's due to his season statistics against the Orioles. Entering this week's series, the 22-year-old recorded a 1.773 OPS along with 10 homers against Baltimore. In the past two games, Torres was 0-for-7 with three strikeouts, and claimed to still feel "weird" prior to the contest.
While the Yankees have shown they can overcome the endless amount of injuries this season, Torres potentially missing a ton of time could be too much.
Stay tuned, as we await further updates from the New York Yankees as to why Gleyber Torres was removed Tuesday night.
