Yankees Recall Chance Adams and Send Stephen Tarpley Back Down to Triple-A
By Sean Facey

The Yankees made a bullpen shuffle ahead of their Wednesday game against the Orioles.
Former top prospect Chance Adams has been recalled to soak up necessary bullpen innings following yet another successful deployment of the Opener on Tuesday. As a corresponding move, southpaw Stephen Tarpley has been optioned back down to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Roster Move: Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees recalled RHP Chance Adams (#35) from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Tarpley has struggled at the major league level in 2019. The former third-round draft pick has posted an 8.31 ERA and 2.077 WHIP in 17.1 innings of work for the Yankees this year, getting hit around by an O's lineup packed with righties and built to destroy him on Tuesday night.
He's been dynamite against lefties this year, limiting them to a paltry .419 OPS. With that being said, right-handed batters have more than made up the difference, slashing .458/.536/.875 in 56 plate appearances against him.
If you told me that Jonathan Holder, Stephen Tarpley and Nestor Cortes would combine for seven innings tonight, this is almost exactly how I figured it would've looked: pic.twitter.com/hEAlv5NPdn

Adams, meanwhile, is set to get yet another crack at the MLB. He's been called upon multiple times in 2019 to serve as a long relief option out of the bullpen.
His last two appearances both came against the Red Sox. He pitched 2.2 innings, allowing six earned runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out just one batter. Adams owns a 7.07 ERA in 14 innings of work this year.
Give some credit to #Yankees P Chance Adams. He's been brought up & asked to take a beating if necessary to save the bullpen 5 times. His numbers don't look great but excluding his London appearance (who pitched well there outside of Cessa?) his ERA is 4.73 & his WHIP is 1.35. pic.twitter.com/kkA1EZ8WXI

With the Yankees slated to face the Orioles and Blue Jays for the next week, though, he'll more than likely have the opportunity to pitch some low-pressure innings against much weaker lineups. If Adams can find a groove, he could prove useful in the push for October.
