Yankees Reportedly Among Growing List of Teams With Sustained Interest in Robbie Ray
By Sam Dunn
With the MLB trade deadline barely two weeks away, buyers are steadily lining up to take their best shots at acquiring everything from top-line stars to sneaky depth pieces. Arizona Diamondbacks starter Robbie Ray has increasingly found himself in the midst of trade rumors, and insider Jon Heyman now has yet another team for us to add to the list of his potential suitors: the New York Yankees.
This is admittedly not a name that will move the needle much for the Bronx faithful, as Ray isn't exactly Madison Bumgarner or Trevor Bauer or Marcus Stroman. If the name of the game is to keep from blowing a gigantic package of attractive assets, however, he's the kind of guy that Brian Cashman and Co. ought to have their eyes on.
And they're not alone in that regard.
At 7-6 on the year with a 3.81 ERA and a 1.306 WHIP, Ray is the kind of guy that could certainly get the job done with the kind of run support the Yanks could provide. But a team that has so clearly stated a need for a starter might want to aim a bit higher first before settling for a mid-tier option considering their World Series aspirations.
