Yankees Reportedly 'One of the Favorites' to Land Dallas Keuchel After MLB Draft
By Parker White
There's a good chance that veteran left-handed starter Dallas Keuchel signs with his new team next week once the MLB Draft has come and gone and draft pick compensation is no longer an issue.
Plenty of teams will have interest in the former Cy Young Award winner, especially since he's open to a one-year contract. However, according to Andy Martino of SNY, the Yankees are "very well-positioned" to seal the deal.
Keuchel has never been a pitcher that will overpower you with velocity, but in 34 starts last season he went 12-11 with a 3.74 ERA and had 153 strikeouts with only 58 walks over 204.2 innings. He promises to provide an instant infusion of quality wherever he ends up.
Adding Keuchel wouldn't preclude the Yankees from signing another starter at the trade deadline. The uncertainty surrounding Luis Severino and the injury history of James Paxton and CC Sabathia mean New York shouldn't go conservative when it comes to adding help. But all told, as long as he's willing to shave the beard, the Yankees have to be the favorites to land this guy in the coming days and weeks.
