The Yankees have been sitting pretty atop the AL East for quite some time now, with their sights set on a much more lofty goal: the World Series. Their one weakness, which has plagued them at numerous points this season, is their pitching staff, predominantly the starters.

New York is expected to go after a starting pitcher ahead of the trade deadline, and according to Ken Rosenthal, the Yankees have an interest in Indians' starter Trevor Bauer.

The Yankees sent one of their top evaluators, Tim Naehring, to watch Bauer toss seven innings of one-run ball against the Cincinnati Reds, a start which could have only increased New York's interest in the right-hander.

On the year, Bauer hasn't been the same dominant arm he was in 2018, but he still has decent numbers, logging a 3.61 ERA with 149 strikeouts across 132 innings of work.

The Yankees currently rank 10th in the league with a 4.15 team ERA, but their pitching staff is nothing to write home about. With the absence of Luis Severino potentially extending to the end of the season, the Bombers are in need of a starting pitcher, one that could handle the playoffs and back-up what has been a prolific offense this season.

Brian Cashman seems to think that Bauer could potentially be the solution to the Yankees' rotation woes, but it remains to be seen if the Indians plan to sell at the deadline.
