Yankees Reportedly Sign Long Island Native Pitcher Nick Tropeano to Minor-League Deal
By Adam Weinrib

The New York Yankees are trolling for pitching depth, and they're sticking local.
The Yanks have reportedly inked Nick Tropeano, a 29-year-old recently of the Los Angeles Angels, to a minor-league deal in an effort to shore up their rotation depth at Triple-A Scranton.

Tropeano had a reason to choose the Yanks over their typical prestige and pedigree, of course. He's an Islip native and a Stony Brook alum.
Tropeano is local. West Islip High and Stony Brook. #yankees

The ex-Angel has already been under the knife for Tommy John, succumbing to the surgery prior to the 2017 season. His '15 campaign is still his most successful at the big league level.
In that breakout year, Tropeano went 3-2 with a 3.82 ERA, whiffing an impressive 38 men in 37.2 innings pitched.
Nick Tropeano is coming home.

The West Islip native and Stony Brook alum is headed back to New York, as he signs a minor league deal with the Yankees. Tropeano has spent five seasons in the major leagues and opted for free agency after pitching 13 innings in 2019. https://t.co/eJK33BeUbF
If Tropeano plays a major role in the Bronx this year, things will have gone horribly awry. But you could do far worse for depth than a projectable righty who's experienced big league success, and has local ties.
